Quite an interesting press release we received today from the Sziget Office.
To anticipate Iron Maiden’s performance at Sziget, Derek Riggs, creator of Maiden mascot Eddie, has made a special Sziget drawing for the cover of New Noise magazine.
The image features Eddie withe the Hungarian Parliament as a hat, shouting “Sziget”.
Iron Maiden, one of this year’s Sziget headliners, has announced the release date for their new record, “The Final Frontier”. The new record will be out on Monday, August 16, just after their performance at the Sziget Main Stage.
Also, the band have made the artwork of the new album available. You can see it below.
Iron Maiden have also made a new track, off “The Final Frontier”, available as a free download to their fans. It’s called El Dorado and you can get it here (the server’s a bit crowded…).
Then, Faithless, Danko Jones, the Hives and The Toy Dolls and Bad Religion(both of the last two names were announced here).
Also at Sziget will be Ska-P, that have been at Sziget before, and Gentleman.
Metal fans will be very happy to hear thatParadise Lost, that we told you about, will be joined in the Sziget lineup by The 69 Eyes and Ill Niño. And for the more extreme ones of you guys, Children of Bodom will be at Sziget Festival 2010!
Also on the metal front, Monster Magnet will be there, as well as GWAR, that Sziget News found out about a while ago!
In the same area, Papa Roach are also mentioned on the “Programs” page.
The fabulous lineup is completed with The Cribs, Subsonica and K.I.Z.
We also forgot to mention Lyapis Trubetskoy
Hope you are all as excited as we are! (FIDutchman, you’ve been a great help!)
Later edit: the Dutch Sziget official site also mentions Skindred for the WAN2 stage. (our thanks go to dinges)
Band names keep on coming as the date of the festival quickly approaches. Until now, metal fans have all the reasons to be happy. After Iron Maiden, Exodus and Meshuggah, two more bands will be at this year’s festival. We’re talking about gothic-doom metallers Lacrimas Profundere, as well as hardcore legends Pro-Pain.
After a few days without any news, a torrent of headliners for Sziget 2008 was announced today. The list starts with punk legends Sex Pistols, and continues with Kaiser Chiefs, Lauren Harris (daughter of Steve Harris, bassist of Iron Maiden, also headlining the festival) and Roisin Murphy (formelrly of Moloko). More details to follow soon.
It appears Lauren Harris will open for Iron Maiden, on the 12th of August.
While we wait for more news on this year’s line-up, check out this video of what Iron Maiden can do live and what everyone that comes to Budapest for the Sziget Festival will experience on the 12th of August…
This is a fake flyer for the festival that’s going around the Internet… How do we know it’s a fake? First, the dates are wrong and second, why would the organizers not mention R.E.M.? Still, it would be nice to have all these artists on the island this year…
