It is now 100% sure, The Offspring will play Sziget Festival 2009′s Main Stage, as the official Sziget press newsletter states. (thanks again to our reader Mellowmaniac).
The newsletter doesn’t confirm any new names, but it says that Tankcsapda will certainly play on Day -1 of the Festival, August 10.
At least that’s what a user on the Sziget Festival 2009 Last.fm page says. He quotes the band’s guitarist (he is talking about Dean Rosenzweig, we presume), whose exact words were “IAMX are definitely playing at Sziget”. We hope this confirms 100 % real soon.
In case you didn’t know, IAMX are the solo project of Chris Corner, best known for his work with Sneaker Pimps.
Don’t tell anyone, but we just heard a rumor that Sigur Ros might play at this year’s Sziget Festival and that the information is listed in this month’s edition of Hungarian Magazine WAN2 magazine (thanks, Tibor).
Szigetnews reader Erik is telling us some more great news. He says that Amy Winehouse is also listed in the article as a possible artist for Sziget Festival 2009. It seems quite possible, especially since she’s playing T in the Park on August 16 and V Festival in England on August 29 and has no other dates in AUgust confirmed. A zero-day performance, maybe?
We’re trying to confirm all of this, but if any of you know more, please use the Contact page to tell us.
The dates for the U2 tour have been announced today. No Sziget date yet, but who knows? As our reader Mellowmaniac noticed, a zero-day appearance is quite possible, since the date is still open.
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it as many times as possible – the Szigetnews readers are the best. This time it’s Szigetnews reader Mussi that found some very interesting rumors on the Guano Apes message boards. We all knew the band has reunited for a few festival appearances this summer, but what you didn’t know is that there are quite a few chances for Sziget Festival to be among these appearances. The news comes from a user’s friend, that organizes concerts in Budapest, apparently.
Guano Apes have already confirmed Nova Rock and Benatska Noc Festivals.
One of our most active readers, Mellowmaniac, has gathered a few more important acts that have confirmed the V and Beautiful Days Festivals and could be a part of the Sziget Festival 2009 line-up. Here’s what he sent us this time (between brackets are dates that are already booked):
Lamb (07.-09.08 + 21.-23.08)
The Pogues (21.-23.08.)
Dreadzone (13.-15.08 + 21.-23.08.)
Dub Pistols (21.-23.08)
Razorlight (22. + 23.08)
Lily Allen (11.-15. + 22. + 23.08)
Happy Mondays (22. + 23.08.)
Katy Perry (22. + 23.08.)
MGMT (22. + 23.08.)
Pendulum (22. + 23.08) – remember they promised to return this year, as they couldn’t play last year.
If you guys have heard any other rumors or facts, we’re very interested in hearing it.
It seems that Fatboy Slim will be the first confirmed Main Stage headliner for this year’s Sziget Festival. We hope this will be officially confirmed as soon as possible.Until then, here’s a video of Fatboy Slim performing for 250.000 people at Brighton Beach.
Update: sziget2009.com have confirmed it with Fatboy Slim’s management.
We’ll be frank with you, we don’t know this one for sure, but many people (including Szigetnews reader Adam Peach) seem to be pretty sure of this. Faith No More have announced their reunion and have also mentioned that they will not play any venues in America. They only confirmed a European tour for this summer and said that it will include a few major summer festivals. So we think it’s quite possible for them to play Sziget, especially since it wouldn’t be a first time. Faith No More have played Sziget Festival before, in 1997. More as we have it.
According to La Depeche, Les Touffes Kretiennes, the “fuckin’ funky brass band”, as they call themselves, will play Sziget Festival 2009 as part of their current European tour in support of their first album. The date is not yet confirmed on their official site, but you can visit it to find out more about them.
