Confirmed: Alt-J to play at Sziget 2017

Alt-J @ Sziget 2017

Less than 24 hours before Sziget 2017's official announcement, one of the performers to participate was revealed: Alt-J will take the stage on the 15th of August 2017. The date (no time slot for now) appeared at the band's agent's website and spotted by a SzigetNews reader. Alt-J was also confirmed earlier to perform at Electric Castle 2017. Alt-J is a Leeds (UK) based indie rock band, turning 10 years old this year. The band's debut album "An Awesome Wave" was released in 2012 - before that, Gwil Sainsbury (guitar/bass), Joe Newman (guitar/lead vocals), Gus Unger-Hamilton (keyboards/vocals) and Thom Green (drums) mostly played at their

Romania Music Festivals in August 2017. Could they overlap?

romania music festival august 2017

Romania is a large country with a history of turmoil, which has slowly began to catch up with the civilized West. One of the signs of its catching-up is its ever-growing festival scene. For years, Félsziget (Peninsula), Sziget's sister festival, was its biggest event. After its decline, a handful of smaller but growing events took its place - the best example would be Untold, its biggest EDM festival, that attracted over 200,000 attendees on its opening event in 2015, and won the "Best Major Festival" award in the same year. All through the summer, Romania is home to several festivals, yet

Some of them are returning names - think Kasabian, Interpol, Leningrad, and others. Without further ado, here is the list of the names that were freshly revealed through Sziget's official Facebook page: Kasabian Flume Interpol Billy Talent Jamie Cullum Charli XCX The Kills Clean Bandit Metronomy The Pretty Reckless Danny Brown Crystal Fighters Fritz Kalkbrenner Leningrad Cashmere Cat Jagwar Ma Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano Maurice West Kasabian needs no introduction: the band played

Sziget Festival: New Owner, The Same Management. What will change?

Sziget 2017 First Announcement

A few days ago an interesting piece of news hit the specialty press: the owners of Sziget Cultural Management, the company behind Sziget Festival, VOLT, and Balaton Sound, among others,  have sold 70% of their participation in the event to Providence Equity Partners, a global asset management company, IQ-Mag writes. The amount which changed hands wasn't disclosed at this time. The new majority owners have big plans for the festival: the news speak about an "international expansion" of the Sziget Festival brand, among others. To this end, James Barton, former president of Electronic Music for Live Nation and Creamfields Festival founder, and Paul

The Lodging Poll: Where Will You Stay During Sziget 2017

festival essentials tent

The 2017 Sziget Festival, as well as all the previous editions, is best enjoyed when moving in. At least if you don't plan on sleeping too much during its week-long events. As you probably know - or if you are at your first trip to Sziget this year, you'll find out - the space on the Island is limited (266 acres / 1 square kilometer is not that much), which means that your lodging will likely always be in hearing distance from one stage or another. Not to mention the things going on in the tents around you... Off-site lodging Sometimes people prefer

Sziget Bookings Manager Dan Panaitescu Awarded Post-Mortem at Europe Festival Awards

Dan Panaitescu was for a long time one of the most important people in building the lineup for Sziget Festival, but not only that: he served as the International Booking Manager for Sziget, Volt, Balaton Sound, and Strand Festival. He is credited with having a very important role in the transformation of the Sziget Festival from a small, regional event into one that is widely considered one of Europe's best summer festivals. Dan Panaitescu was one of the key professionals Sziget has to thank for receiving the "Best Lineup Award" at the European Festival Awards last year. Unfortunately, Dan passed away

Sziget 2017 First Names: Bad Religion, Major Lazer, Dimitri Vegas & Others

Sziget 2017 announcement

And now, the moment we've all been waiting for: Sziget finally announced the first artists and bands to perform at the 25th edition of the festival, Sziget 2017. The announcement was anticipated by so many that when it finally got published, the sheer number of visitors apparently took down the Sziget websites: Hopefully, this is not a bad omen for the upcoming event. As usual, there was a lot of speculation - mostly based on the lineups announced by other festivals, and the tour dates announced by the artists or the bands - about who will be the names supposed to draw

Balaton Sound, Electric Castle Announce First Names for 2017

Sziget 2017 Austria Festivals

Sziget has not announced any new names yet, but we can already speculate on who we will - and will not - see at the 2017 anniversary edition based on what other festivals either under Sziget's umbrella (Volt, Balaton Sound) or other festivals in the area (Electric Castle, Untold) announce. The first artists and bands to participate at some have seen the light of day today. Update: Hungary Today hints on Bastille coming to Sziget 2017. I personally think it's a mistake that sneaked into the article (it looks like a confusion by the author who wrote Sziget instead of Strand), but

Sziget Festival 2016 official aftermovie

Christmas is at our doorstep, which makes summer feel like an oh-so-distant memory. But Sziget is here to bring back at least a bit of the sunshine of summers past: the official aftermovie of the 2016 Sziget Festival is here. Sziget has sure taken its sweet time to release it, but you know what they say: better late than never. Behold: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-6NB2SEgLk Aside from this short film trying to cram seven days of Sziget feeling into eight short minutes, Sziget has also released an official Sziget Viber sticker pack that can be downloaded from here.
