We are incredibly excited for how the festival is shaping up, so please bear with us and stay tuned for more details so soon. Next summer’s festival circuit lineups are starting to be populated by performers booked by festival organizers all across Europe. While the list of confirmed artists is still short, they leave a lot of room for speculation and guesswork about who is coming and who is not coming to Sziget 2018. loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool Sziget Festival Official 1 min · We wanted to be in a position to make an announcement this Tuesday, but to make Sziget 2018 as big and as exciting as possible we need just a little bit more time. I think that they feared that their names would be ridiculously crappy compared to today’s announcements
@Patrick Bateman. wouldn’t say that. they are just good group of people who know how to and who to book in 2017. Sziget just know facebook likes. you know the difference.
Still i dont get how Budapest promoter, such a small company managed to book green day_that no one could book in the last 12 years_and now arcade fire
@Patrick: Everyone is free to negotiate with as many promoters as possible and in the end it’s normal to choose the better offer. If that’s the case here, they shouldn’t announce that we get new names tomorrow if they didn’t have anything “on paper”. Or maybe they just had small names and didn’t expect QOTSA & AF announcements for today.
Look at the bright side, it may be they have some peculiar negotiation and they didn’t succeed in closing it in time, but that doesn’t take it from the table. Any case, it means that they are willing to release big things soon, which makes the difference from the last year behavior (2 weeks heads)
So funny how you cant read between the lines. They have nothing in hand to show, they just wanted to sell the prodigy/placebo line up as big, but sadly for them real promoters came up with real big things. They just ran away crying…
@Sziget very probable that Sziget and Reading were about to announce the same headliner and he/she/they decided to postpone the tour announcement. I’m expecting an headliner that still haven’t announced the summer tour at this point.
People are probably dropping QOTSA because of the Josh Homme assault, or contemplating it. Might affect announcements.
I actually think that Arcade Fire are more likely for canceling / negotiation fails, as Budapest Park hyped a “very big announcement” few days ago on Facebook and they definitely meant QOTSA: https://www.facebook.com/budapestpark/photos/a.142897169169310.27261.106167332842294/1428741190584895/?type=3.
If it’s the Real Slim Shady it worths the wait… It seems that he did the same thing with R+L last year and they had to do the announcement without him first. This year he won’t be at Reading, but he might be at V Festival, which will have a new name next year. Let’s wait and see what happens…
All signs hint Eminem right now… today his agent told the press that “Eminem will be touring next year on select dates, his first U.S. performances since 2014.”: https://www.pollstar.com/article/cara-lewis-on-hip-hops-explosion-eminem-khalid-chance-133966. He might have done the same thing he did with R+L last year (as he wasn’t ready to announce the tour officially) and now he only hinted a tour today via his agent to create more hype. If it’s him, it will be huge and Sziget can turn this waiting time in their favor. 😀
Lol expect a huge flop at sziget again this year http://britishrock.cc/portal/festival/detail.php?event=16079
imagine the situation there is a buzz in the sziget office, they are about to announce the same old crap like Macklemore, and Gorillaz, they are thinking they are on the top of the world, and damn 1 day before the initial announcement… the announcement wave comes in with headliner shows from Billy Idol, Qotsa, Aracafe Fire. There is silence in the room, you could even here someone crying. Later, they schedule an urgent meeting about why did they rely on facebook likes again instead of quality, but it’s too late…
@Fsfsf- Billy Idol and Qotsa will play in Budapest Park, which is partially owned by the same guys as Sziget. so I don’t think it came to them as a surprise 🙂
Announcement was similar to the one leaked, at least some festivals still have their John Doe… Anyway, I’d dig and bet on the presence of Gorillaz and Netsky. Not much for the rest – I could see Macklemore for sub once again if they can’t fill the spot (since he’s always appreciated, apparently), Casper in the A38 for our fella from Netherlands (or Belgium? Or Germany?), Raf Camora and the other dude for the Germans (or Dutch?), Kaleo early in the A38 – and than load of sh*t for the Party Arena
seems like it was “fake”… https://www.facebook.com/fm4frequency/photos/gm.132061807487245/10156446373156030/?type=3&theater awfully pathetic line-up, expect the worst for sziget again
Rock for the People (4-6 July 2018 Hradec Králové, Czech Republic) announced its first names for next year’s event: The Prodigy, Skillet, In This Moment, Sick Puppies, and Pop Evil.
Also Kygo can be considered for the Main Stage, although I consider him unlikely to be on the Closing Party timespot
in 2007 @ FQ I saw NIN, Interpol, Brand New, And you will trail us by the dead, Jimmy eat World, Millencolin, Fall out boy, etc… Guess we can see a little bit of drop in quality over there as well…
@Yelo at this year’s Balaton Sound the Main Stage was packed with Kygo, so he may unfortunately be a possibility. Another one is Armin Van Buuren. He has played in 3 of the last 4 Balaton Sound and this year’s headliner are already in the lineup. End Show?
Anyway’s official: Gorillaz at Frequency. I’ll already see them at Sonar but they would be a super cool headliner! Fortunately we already Macklemore so we’re not gonna have him again.
@Bender: Could see more likely Tiesto for end party, I would dig AVB, but I cannot see if people from Sziget would appreciate it, too much more casual audience. Would bet on Gorillaz at Sziget this year, but last year we bet on XX and Mumford and Sons and got in return Chainsmokers and Wiz Khalifa, so I will shut my mouth. Surely this FM4 announcement doesn’t give goose bumps, and if the announcement of Sziget of yesterday was somehow similar to this (one enormeous name and the most total emptiness), thanks but no thanks. On the other side, to the people looking for festivals (and not only for Sziget), I suggest to keep an eye on Dour, Inmusic and Open’er for low budget and Roskilde, Rock Im Park, Werchter and NOS Alive in general. Those are really takin advantage over the hiatus of Glastonbury this year
@Yelo, I definitely cannot recommend NOS Alive. Never seen such a mess of organisation. Regarding lineup – they’re always on top, right.
It looks that when one big name play to Freequency he won’t play to Sziget. I don’t think Gorillaz will play 🙁
Have they said when we can expect the first names, following this delay? I’m not even mad about it. Sziget is always trolling us, and if you don’t just kick back and enjoy the ride, you’re going to have a bad time.
Depeche Mode, Gorillaz, The Killers & Travi$ Scott are headlining Lollapalooza Paris (21-22 July). The Killers at Sziget would be interesting. 😀
Gorillaz and The Killers seems like safe choice for them. Not sure that they will sell a lot of tickets, but you can add a pop star like Bruno Mars/Ed Sheeran, edm star like Tiesto/Calvin Harris and smth heavy (still hoping for Rammstein). And in the end you will have a pretty solid and diverse lineup for headliners.
@Fsfsf I don’t understand your tastes anymore, maybe not the Killers but the Prodigy… I thought you like them …
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds were announced for Positivus Festival in Latvia (20 July). They would be also cool for Sziget!
I think…they will move the earlybirddate to 31.01.2017. They don´t have a problem to break their own rules….
I’m not planning on going this year. It would be my 9th. But if they pull out an outstanding lineup I could be convinced. Nick cave, gorillaz and Bjork would be a great start
Last saturday I’ve been to I Love Techno Europe in Montpellier and seen a lot of huge acts. Now I desperately hope Boris Brejcha, Rodhad and Sam Paganini to be in the Colosseum lineup. Paul Kalkbrenner for this “Back to the Future” tour in A38 would be killer as well.
As headliner I’d be pissed off as well, because it’s a lazy pick, as a sub it’s pretty decent. On same level and impact of Alt-J (even if they bring a total different atmosphere), IMHO. Imagine Dragons is a good band, I have fond memories of the medley of Radioactive and Demons to close their gig in 2014, but latest records are underwhelming compared to the first LP and all in all they went full pop from the mix they use to beof something pop and yet something alternative, somehow.
They are a good act at 17.45 h on the main and a brilliant headliner for the A38 stage ;-)….but….we don´t have them….til now….so…..who cares……
We both know that they don’t fit the Sziget’s pop trend (so far, at least), and we both know that they won’t throw an headliner band to a competitor festival in a 17,45h (because that is not how booking works) and that to put them in A38 would be dangerous and negative for the gig itself. They are like Bastille: 17,45 in 2014, 19,30 in 2016. If that’s the case of ID at Sziget2018, of course
Wilkinson, The Subways, Milky Chance, The Parlotones, Fink and others were annouced for Awake Festival (17-20 August, Romania).
Imagine Dragons would be awful. The most generic of the generic. Makes The Killers feel like an inspired choice, and that is hard. Please no.
Have you seen how easy it is to make him happy…. Fink would also be cool…even if it would be his 3rd gig….
The statement from the festival last year is that they want to take the other activities and build on them because large bands are now so expensive. So maybe an enhanced world music area. They would work on. Theming each area much more deeply. They could have a pirate theme for the beach area with ska and punky bands. The dance and collusieum arena could be cyberpunk. Main stage as a town square with themed Bars around the outside and walk about charactors. More hidden bars and experiences.
So the only European summer festivals that have’nt announced anything yet are Sziget, Primavera and Reading / Leeds … correct?
@FAB: Lowlands, Flow, Pukkelpop, Paleo, V Festival, Latitude, Rock En Seine, Untold, Bestival, Zürich Openair, Rototom, Womad, Haldern Pop, Lokerse Feesten, Green Man
Untold is a “major” festival that has to be avoided. Crap EDM, crap DJs every year. A cheaper copycat of Tomorrowland.
Gorillaz will release another album next year… now they playing Sziget would make sense, even if they were in Budapest recently.
INmusic has just confirmed ALice in Chains. Along them they comfirmed QOTSA, Nick Cave, David Byrne, Skunk Anansie and The Kills. The price of a 3-day ticket is 53 EUR and the beer is under 3 EUR. Just saying.
A new Gnarls Barkley album is on the way, it seems… I would love to have them at Sziget next year or in 2019, despite the fact that the sound at Cee Lo Green’s performance in 2014 sucked!
Is there really more way downhill for sziget? They keep surprising me with every new post… How could they even think about this being posted?? “Budapest is already confirmed for Sziget 2018! And what’s even better: Sziget City – our new travel agency – is here to help you making the most out of it! “
Sziget deleted the dates of the price increases on their webshop, I think the first announcement will come in January and the next prince increase will be postponed
People said on Sziget Russia that we should expect names in this week or the next, so, since today I had nothing to do (merry Christmas, btw!), I scrolled down festival pages searching for some picks. My guess ATM is the following. Excluding names that aren’t in the circuit yet, the only headliners in august circuit are The Chemical Brothers, Macklemore, Arcade Fire and Gorillaz. I would not bet on the first two as Chems were at Sziget 2016 and that would be a weak opening announcement – so I can think that they maybe will release in next announcement (if they will be announced), meanwhile Macklemore has been one of the main names of the last edition – and that makes him unlikely; also, if I were in the new management team I would take as much distance as I can from latest edition. Gorillaz on the other hand are really likely, as they are headlining half of the festivals in this summer, and Arcade Fire are a wet dream for somebody, since they are headlining Oya. To those I add Foo Fighters, rumored for R&L, and the super-suprise they have been talking about from time to time (Eminem was a name spelled by organizers in an interview written on this blog some month ago and also was the big delusional expectation for the sad edition that was the 2017’s – surely this would make the boom, even if his latest album is one of the worst thing I ever had to listen to). So far I would rule out Pearl Jam, Nick Cave, QOTSA, Jack White, NIN, Arctic Monkeys, Bruno Mars, potato patato. In any case, it seems to be a more stimulating year that the one passed. Speaking of undercards and subs, I saw some fresh names that can be interesting for Sziget. Oya fest has released Chelsea Wolfe, Likke Li, Patti Smith that can suit the Main Stage and few others that may satisfy the taste of A38, 2 among the rest: Wolf Alice and Sleaford Mods. Boardmasters has The Horrors and Craig David, on which I would bet few bucks (especially Craig David as a sub, it sounds to me as a really strong pick for a mindset as the one Sziget had in latest years). Finally, Creamfields, now a festival partner with Sziget, has released only a big headliner: Carl Cox. Now, I know that it would be to cannibalize profits to make two festivals of the same company to share such a relevant act, but a man can dream. To close with, looking at the gigs of the passed edition of festivals of the same company, I can point my finger to: – Kygo/Tiesto/Axwell /\ Ingrosso / Armin Van Bureen (in order of probability IMO for the end show), I strongly assume that Kygo will be one of the cheapass headliner of this edition that will make us all scream for rage – in that scenario, al my chips on Tiesto on closing party. – Dua Lipa, Jason Derulo for undercards in the MS, Bloody Beetroots, Carnage, Example, Netsky, Noisia, Sigma, Zeds Dead, Yellow Claw for night time in A38, Dubfire, Joseph Capriati, Jam Blomqvist, Jamie Jones, John Digweed, Dave Clark for the Colosseum. Not even wasting time on the Party Arena (PS. non of those are touring so far but Bloody Beetroots and Netsky, for as much as I know) – Imagine Dragons are HIGHLY likely to be announced, the only hope is that they will have the place they deserve: 19,30 spot on MS. – Martin Garrix/Fatboy Slim can take a spot in the Main Stage as headliner. – Years and Years are at Loollapalooza Paris this year, and were at Volt last year. So, closing the longest post ever, my call would be: Gorillaz, Tiesto, Craig David, Imagine Dragons, Patti Smith, Portugal. The Man, Kaleo, Casper, Netsky, Dillon Francis, Lost Frequencies, Krewella, Sigala + others
I hope that your anouncement is partly true…Kaleo would be cool and portugal the man also….we can dream til their next post…
