In case you needed it, we have the official confirmation that there will be no Hammer World Stage at Sziget Festival 2009. This article in Hammer World magazine (it’s in Hungarian) confirms this. The article says that they have been notified by the Sziget organizers that there will be no no Hammer World Stage. There is also some good news. The organizers said that, according to the festival’s new structure, the metal bands, Hungarian as well as foreign, will play at some of the other stages.

The article also says that the decision is somewhat understandable, as much less people showed up at the afternoon and early evening Hammer World Stage performances in the last two years. The whole article can be read here.

One important question no one has asked yet is if there will be another international stage instead of the Hammerworld stage…!?

Would be great to have a new international stage with rock in addition to the WAN2 stage!

This is probably a budget-related decision, so it seems less likely. But who knows?

That’s the point. The budget. I wonder for example why the tickets on the Hungarian site cos 37500 Ft. and on the German for example 41500 Ft. ? Got a little lack of comprehension for this one…
    :)

    Support your local audience.!?

Honestly: compared to the big festivals in Germany or even more in the UK the Sziget tickets are really “cheap”.

I guess germans (french, dutch, swedish,… who are willing to pay for an airplaneticket to get there) don’t bother if they have to pay 102 Euros or 120 Euros for festival passes, but the number of people from Hungray went down in the last years… So I think it would be fair to give the locals a kind of discount (even though I don’t think that it’s meant as this).

We had the whole budget discussion last year with the shortening of the main festival. I think their cost reduction with cutting two days and keeping the entrance fees on the previous level was prominent enough.

They spend only a small percentage of the money most of the two or three day festivals like Rock am Ring, Hurricane, Rock Werchter, Pink Pop, V-Festival, Reading invest in popular bands – BUT Sziget isn’t so much about the mayor bands: it’s about the experience! ;)

Yes I totally agree with you. It’s just confusing to me, that you can type in your credit card number into the Hungarian form or into the German form. And guess what: you pay different prices. Actually I did.
Or Is there any mechanism how they ensure that this won’t work??
    :)

  6. Sziget News says:

Well, there actually is a way for them to see where you’re from. There are sites that don’t allow purchases from other IP addresses than the ones in the country that those tickets are for. But if it worked, you probably shouldn’t be worried. ;)

Arctic Monkeys – they are only available for the 11th and the 12th of August. I really hope they can get them, there will be no better chance in the coming years /i think. If not sziget, they could come to volt festival too. It doesnt have a headliner yet for the 3rd of july, which is available too for the monkeys.

  8. Mellowmaniac says:

I guess our chances for the Arctic Monkeys are pretty low… They will be in Scandinavia from 13th till 15th of August and so can only play on the 11th, 12th or 16th of August.

They are not big enough for a propper Day Zero headliner and to play in Budapest one day before or after Scandinavia would be a pretty tough scheduling.

But… you never know and I’d love to see them again.
