In a major press release, Sziget 2016 has shed a bit more light on what visitors can expect to see at this year’s edition, adding some new performers to a variety of stages. So, without further ado, here are the names and their stages – what we know so far.
Main Stage Performers – No change here
On Day -1, Sziget’s program will be opened by Marky Ramone’s 40 Years of Punk Rock, followed by fresh materials by Skunk Anansie and the favored festival performer, Die Antwoord. Day 0 will be opened by Punnany Massif, followed by Jake Bugg and Parov Stelar, and the big name of the day will be Rihanna.
Other artists to perform on the Main Stage on the rest of the days, without any regard to their showtimes and days: Manu Chao with La Ventura, Muse, David Guetta, SIA, and Hardwell, who will end the festival. Péterfy Bori & Love Band
Szabó Balázs bandája
The Petofi Radio – Telekom VOLT Festival Stage is dedicated to local talent, and all concerts will be followed, as usual, by party ’til the break of dawn with a series of great DJs.
The site, dedicated to the Hungarian countryside, is meant to present the local traditions to the foreign visitors coming to Sziget. This year it is dedicated to playing, with games that can be learned, made and danced. Along with the Turai Táncegyüttes and the Corvinus Néptáncegyüttes, the visitors will be greeted by Transylvanian traditionalists, too.
Workshops, dance and drum classes will wait for the visitors to the Afro-Latin-Reggae Village between 11 and 17 each day. The days will start with 45 minutes of yoga, followed by capoeira, salsa, samba and other workshops, with authentic instructors.
The Senegalese Sory Ballet Camara will perform five times during Sziget, showing off dances of various African peoples and their authentic costumes. Other performers include RedRed, a Hungarian – Ghanaian group, Barrio Latino, the first Hungarian timba band, Ras Muhamad from Indonesia, along with Riddim Colony, Paso Soundsystem, Love Alliance, Goatmét Soundsystem, Afrodzquam, Manaky, Medial Banana from Slovakia, Bassrunner SoundTribe from Austria, and Airtist.
Blues Pub Stage
The stage was moved to a new location, and will be open between 4 PM and 3 AM. Blues lovers will have the chance to see and hear artists like Errol Linton (UK), Leifde Leeuw Band and Erik Ankoné, the Krakow Street Band, Jambalaya, Tom White & the Mad Circus, Lead Zeppelin, and the Jack Canon Band.
Budapest Park Tribute Stage
The Tribute stage expects its visitors with performers like Stoned (Rolling Stones), Pearl Jam Tribute by Grunge Electric, Motörhand, Maroon 5 Cover Show, Rage Against Tribute by Subscribe, Piknik Park, as well as Tökéletes Helyettesek – paying homage to Kispál és a Borz.
The Lightstage, built using wood and hundreds of lights, will inherit one of the greenest parts of the island, close to the Alternativa Camping. It will be home to artists like Barbados, Bugo, Dirty Harry’s Dynamite, Giosada & Band, Landlord, Lola, Lysergic, Mama Marjas, Osc2X, Selton, as well as Teapot Industries.
