The same Fesztivalok Varosa that have found the latest batch of acts before they were officially announced also has a list of speculations for the Sziget 2013 line up, based on bands touring Europe and the area at the time of Sziget Festival 2013.
How about we all give it a look and speculate around it even more, like we do every year? Some of these acts are, we think, very possible additions to the Sziget 2013 line up.
Here it is, including the Sziget News readers’ input (so keep coming back,as the list gets modified every half an hour or so). Do you think there’s anything to add to it? Say it, along with your reasons, in a comment.

+ Phoenix
+ Paul Kalkbrenner
Trivium (08. 08 Sweden)
@Crazyfrog: Do any of them have dates in August in Europe? We only found a lot of March dates for Paul Kalkbrenner and some for Phoenix in June. Or is it just wishful thinking?
@Vicious: added, thanks!
Seeed is already confirmed
@asd: even the best of us make mistakes.
Thanks for pointing it out.
You can cross Bowie off the list because he said he was never going to tour again.
If they get Suede, I don’t need anything else.
@apis: Bowie is a longshot, but he said he’d do shows only if he would feel like it. So who knows. But yes, we’ll take him off the list.
Deftones? Playing Reading/Leeds Festival
@theshipcat: added!
David Bowie? That’s very unlikely! He doesn’t perform anymore.
Biffy Clyro? Boys noize wasn’t already confirmed..?
@Joep: do Biffy Clyro have any August dates in Europe? None are listed on their site.
anthrax / king diamond…. play uk
http://www.bloodstock.uk.com/events/boa-2013/stages
where the hell is john doe?!
Billy Talent? Their show in budapest (in A38) for this spring got canceled. Only show announced for june so far. But who knows, mabye they will come to Sziget.
@Bender: he’ll probably show up when least expected.
@metal: added!
After some research on lowlands romours.
Daft punk, comes with a new cd. Probably will tour this summer.
Axwell, Amrin van Buuren, Steve Aoki, wildstylz are in europe.
The Knife has announced to tour festivals this summer.
Of monsters and men
08-08 Oya festival Norway
08-08/10-08 Way out festival Sweden
15-08 Frequency festival Austria
Phoenix and Paul Kalkbrenner are playing in Paris in August
http://www.rockenseine.com/fr/
@Mezzezo: we couldn’t find dates in Europe for Armin van Buuren, Wildstylez and Axwell in August. Added the rest.
@BRecht: added!
@Crazyfrog: added!
Muse and Billy Talent!!
@Christina: Muse has already played Budapest on this tour, so it’s very implausible. Billy Talent, who knows, but they don’t have shows in Europe at that time (not yet, at least).
Muse is playing at the Summer Sonic festival in Japan at the time of Sziget, just like Metallica, Linkin Park, The Stone Roses, Pet Shop Boys, Jake Bugg, Earth, Wind & Fire, Cindy Lauper and Peace.
Steve Aoki, wasn’t he confirmed for Balaton Sound already? That makes him quite unlikely too.
Steve Aoki and Bloody Beetroots are confirmed for balaton sound; organizers have always said that if a band plays in one of these festivals (sziget and balaton sound) doesn’t plays in the other the same year
@Roby: that’s true, too. Took them off the list.
Molotov
Arctic Monkeys
Editors
Eminem
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
please omg
@Celeste: is that just a wish? They don’t seem to have tour dates in Europe in August. Not yet, at least.
Arctic Monkeys, Iron Maiden, Maroon 5 and Volbeat don’t have tour dates in Europe in August on their websites.
And same for The Maccabees.
No, but Iron Maiden are in Europe until the end of July, so are Arctic Monkeys and Volbeat. Took Maroon 5 and The Maccabees out.
the maccabees (along with many others) will play at arenal sound festival in spain early august and some acts (two door cc, ting tings, crystal fighters) performed both festivals last year…maybe totally enormous extinc dinosaurs? he plays at two european festivals in august so far.
I bet on Slayer!
Kings of Leon! x
@stella: added back!
@Fab: added!
@stella: Indeed, The Drums, The Fratellis, White Lies and many others can be added to the speculations!
@Brecht: true. Now they’re added.
Alt-J is touring europe and the only date in august for now is 23 of august Reading/Leeds festival. Same story for Sub Focus
Andy C, Wax Tailor, Amon Tobin, Skindred, Smashing pumpkins all in Juli at Dour festival and haven’t got anything planned during sziget. Except for Skindred Aug 06 Kubana Anapa, Russia, but it’s still possible.
Disclosure Rock werchter / Heineken Open’er Festival juli
I’ve heard that Sluwe Vos is likely to perform at sziget and in the dutch party train. I really hope this is the case he’s absolutely fantastic slapfunk house dj!
Queens of the stoneage would be nice ..
@Archer: 99% impossible. They’re playing Volt.
The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Skrillex are part of the Sonne Mond Sterne line-up in Germany in August.
Usually there are many samne bands wiht the frequency festival in austria…..look at their lineup, there will be for sure many bands from their lineup playing at the sziget to, like SOAD i hope
@God: Think you’re looking at the 2012 line-up!
“Die Toten Hosen” and “Die Ärzte” perform together on the airport Berlin Tempelhof (9.8.2013). That would suit!
@Brecht
You are right, sorry about that. The site itself doesn’t state that it’s 2012 line-up…
Knife Party will play at Tomorrowland on 27-07. It may not be in August, but the date is closer to Sziget than the dates in the end of August (Reading and Leeds).
@Brecht: added that info.
@Swing die Hufe: added!
travis?
https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=10151215503784503&id=17908599502
Rammstein will headline VOLT festival!! (info from an organiser)
@Joel: did he give any other details?
@Sziget News: The Knife is not Knife Party
Wu Tang Clan is a major target for Balaton Sound, but it’s not 100% they will appear there. Another news regarding VOLT that Billy Talent’s management still negotiating with the Hungarian organizers.
Slayer will play Hegyalja festival.
[...] Fact is that Rammstein are doing a festival tour this summer and have no Hungary date yet, which is why they’re in the rumors list. [...]
I see Parov Stelar Band is also playing at Volt festival? Maybe, there is a tiny little chance, that QOTSA wil come to Sziget aswell
Joel is Volt’s John Doe!
Joel, so far you’re filling those shoes
Let it be Knife Party & Eminem playing @ Sziget. It would be crazy
The xx and The Subways seems to be touring and both have unbooked dates during Sziget..
Eminem & Knife party!!!!!!!
Biffy are headlining Reading / Leeds this year I am led to believe. Also have dates in July in Bilbao and Lisbon.
Green Day – European Tour (Italy, Serbia And Montenegro, Austria, Germany, UK, Poland, Russia, Spain… every country in Europe except Hungary)
@eszter: true, but not in August. They’re done with Europe mid-July, which makes it a bit implausible.
Slayer, Bullet For My Valentine, Alabama Shakes, The Menzingers, The Lumineers got confirmed for Lowlands festival (16-18 august) in Holland.
Would take Biffy, Bullet My Valentine & Knife Party … Slayer too if they hadn’t been ruled out earlier
@Szigetnews you can also add Sigur Ros. They’re in Italy at the end of July and in England at the end of August.
@Brecht, Bender: done!
On a side note, how many artists are usually confirmed during the early bird sales?
SLAYER play :
August 7th Stockholm Gröna Lund Festival Sweden
August 9th Oulu Jalometalli Festival Finland
August 10th Oslo Oya Festivalen Norway
August 11th Derbyshire Bloodstock Open Air UK
SLAYER can not play Sziget festival
BFMV also confirmed for Anapa, Russia on Aug 4th.
+ Guano Apes there Aug 3rg and SOAD / Skillet Aug 7th
It’s a long shot because these bands are not playing near Sziget and around that time, but there’s still hope, because they have gigs in Europe:
July – Depeche Mode, Damien Rice, dEUS, Bush, Efterklang, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Hives, Iggy & The Stooges, Sting, Bloc Party
September – Franz Ferdinand
dog blood
@Bender hopes die last
Vaccines? De La Soul? Basement Jaxx?
Bloodhound Gang?
07/26/13 Berlin, Germany
07/27/13 Grossenfehn, Germany
basement jaxx and bloodhound gang would make my sziget
as fantasy lists go ours is shaping up nicely …
Does anyone remember when the second round of names were announced last year?
@Adam clark: ti does, doesn’t it?
@Chudo_pahan: added!
@adam clark: The second round was announced 20th of February 2012, and the first round was announced 24th of January 2012. So, next announcement for this year will probably take two weeks or more.
@Brecht: cheers, 2 more weeks of speculation ahead…
Alesso, Axwell, Steve Aoki, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Armin van Buuren and Wildstylez confirmed for tommorowland 2013 26-28 july
Added!
http://festileaks.com/festival-geruchten-nieuws/reading-leeds-boekt-biffy-clyro-als-tweede-headliner/ biffy @.leeds
Fall Out Boy @ Reading / Leeds confirmed
Jake Bugg and Foals are also added @ Reading/Leeds
@joep, Jupi, verbludozis: added!
Jake Bugg will be in Japan during Sziget.
@Hungry: Only during part of it.
In that case the other acts performing at Summer Sonic can be added to the speculations list too?
Metallica, Muse, Linkin Park, Earth, Wind & Fire, Cindy Lauper, Jake Bugg, Kodaline, Palma Violets, Peace, The Stone Roses, Pet Shop Boys
I think they’re all very unlikely, although of course I hope some of them will come to Sziget.
@Hungry: not if they’re not at all in Europe. Metallica, L
Pet Shop Boys are free on part of the Sziget days, but, like The Stone Roses, have no other tour dates in July or August, the same for Peace, Kodaline, Cyndi Lauper, Earth, Wind & Fire and Linkin Park.
Muse probably won’t play Hungary twice in a year.
Palma Violets could be possible, which is why we added them.
Boardmasters 2013 7/11 August : Ben Howard, The Vaccines, Basement Jaxx, Everything Everything
Standon Calling 2013 2/4 August:De La Soul
Hevy Music Festival 2013 2/4 August: Black Flag
Also Grandmaster Flash at boardmaster…
@Fab: added!
A few more of the bands playing at Brutal Assault – Czech Rep
Aug 07-10;
Opeth, Meshuggah, Carcass, Amorphis, Overkill, Atari Teenage Riot, Whitechapel, Entombed, Ihshan, D.R.I., Madball, Downset …
You can add Rage Against The Machine
http://www.examiner.com/article/rage-against-the-machine-rumored-summer-reunion-tour
@adam clark: with no Metal Stage, it’s probably safe to guess that there will be a metal day again. And it probably won’t go into the extremes too much.
@Tom: we won’t add them until they have some confirmed tour dates during that period.
T in the Park (July 12-14, so within a month of Sziget) has:
Mumford & Sons
Rihanna
The Killers
The Script
Emeli Sande
Alt-J
Two Door Cinema Club
Jake Bugg
Paloma Faith
According to their website, System of a Down has gigs in Russia on Wed Aug 7th and in Sweden in Fri Aug 9th. Finnish rock festival Jurassic Rock (http://www.jurassicrock.fi/site/ only in Finnish, sorry) has also announced that SOAD is playing on that festival on Sun Aug 11th.
Based on that information, it seems to me that it is implausible that they would be in Sziget during the same week.
@ Sziget News
“it’s probably safe to guess that there will be a metal day again”
How safe? You sound pretty confident. The idea of a separate day is wrong in principle to many festival goers. The festival should be about integrating the various styles and genres of music throughout the festival proper.
The idea of segregating metal, and offering a late card on a seperate day was a bad move last year and shouldn’t be endorsed this year.
sziget organizers would be damn stupid if they don’t book soad.. everybody is calling for them and they’re alredy in east europe in august! no i think sziget will book them otherwise it will be one of the biggest mistake ever!
+ Deerhunter @ Off festival
http://off-festival.pl/
@diseasefire You’re damn right! If it is possible, they should play!
SOAD are now apparently booked for 7th, 9th & 11th August, which still leaves 8th & 10th free. Will be gutted if they’re not booked!
Fingers crossed i guess
August 7, 2013 Anapa, Russia Kubana Festival
August 9, 2013 Gavle, Sweden Getaway Rock Festival
August 11, 2013 Mikkeli, Jurassic Rock Festival, Finland
August 13, 2013 Lodz, Poland Atlas Arena
August 14, 2013 Prague, Czech Republic Aerodrome Festival
August 16, 2013 St. Polten, Austria Frequency Festival
Very difficult they come.
As I said before, that still leaves 8th & 10th free, with the 8th being most probable, I suppose, when you look at the locations they’ll be in. I reckon, whatever happens, it might be worth a detour over to Prague for 14th.
Boomtown Fair (8th-11th August, UK):
Toots and the Maytals, Mad Caddies, The Selecter, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Collie Buddz, Ska Cubano, etc. http://sphotos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/405686_607741932585358_431544378_n.jpg

The Horrors
White Lies
The Strokes
Jake Bugg
The Drums
The Klaxons

Foster The People
Metronomy
Arcade Fire
Modest Mouse
Bonobo 22 JULY Croatia ????
Prince, Kings Of Leon, Mew, Alabama Shakes, Kashmir, Avicii and Beth Hart are added voor Smukfest @ Denmark (august 7-11) So maybe some of them will play @ Sziget?
Prince would be way too expensive, surely?
please, no Prince…
i place my bet on kings of leon
Yeah, I’m not that bothered about the Kings of Leon, but it’s getting increasingly likely that they’ll get announced.
And, on the subject of announcements, isn’t it time that another headliner was announced? This time last year, we already had 2 headliners – Placebo and Stone Roses.
If you compare to 2011, we know quite a lot now. That year the first official announcement came in March.
James Blake is playing Oya Festival, Oslo and Way Out West, Gothenburg. Could be a safe bet (new album will be fire. Maybe Kendrick Lamar, hopefully the Lumineers, Moderat (?). Am dearly hoping John Talabot, Four Tet, C2C, Todd Terje, Henrick Schwarz, and Julio Bashmore would be a magical set of electronic additions. So we gotta wait until March for the first announcement? Would be hoping its somewhat earlier
De la soul and grandmaster flash would be epic, Sziget needs more good hip-hop like the Roots last year
Kraftwerk announced they’ll be playingu summer festivals.
On 11th August they’re in Helsinki.
http://consequenceofsound.net/2013/02/kraftwerk-announces-festival-appearances/
kraftwerk would be damn awesome!
I heard a Dutch radio DJ talking about Gorillaz @ Sziget 2013! I know it’s not a real rumor that you can add but i thought it is worth sharing! That would be awesome in my opinion
we already have blur so it’s possible! maybe damon will make a double show!
Sting is playing in Belgium @ Suikerrock. This one day festival is on july 27. So i guess Sting can be added to the rumours?
What about Atoms for Peace, they’ll be on Pohoda festival which is smaller venue and it’s quite close to Sziget. (but I think it’s in July) but anyway it would be nice to have Tom Yorke and Flea on Sziget!!!
Ska-P @ Sziget 2013! http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151397188631832&set=a.435546641831.234767.42134351831&type=1&theater
Tenacious D, Imagine Dragons, Awolnation, Kodaline, Jonathan Jeremiah and more for announced for Frequency! (Aug 15-17 Austria)
Florence and the Machine confirmed got Coke festival in Krakow 9-10.August. This looks like a sure shot
Florence and the Machine – as a headliner?
– Noooooooooo!
Last year at this time, we already had 3 headliners confirmed..
… and we were pretty unhappy with them!
so I prefer waiting for good!
infected mushroom confirmed at tomorrowland on july 27-28 would be really dope
Nine Inch Nails are playing in Hockenheim, Germany in the middle of August.
Nine Inch Nails would be fantastic!
They already played at Sziget in 2007 (I think), so there’s a chance they could be back.
Here’s hoping they return!
Editors at arenal sound and at some german festival, time for sziget between them. Cross fingers
Oh, I would LOVE to see NIN in Sziget again.
I think there’s a chance if they’ll be in Europe in August.
Portishead are playing European festivals in June.
Franz Ferdinand are playing at Frequency Festival in Austria (15th-17th August).
Imagine dragons are playing Lowlands
My final bet:
Headliners:
- Blur (already announced)
- Iron Maiden
- Jamiroquai
- Arctic Monkeys
- Eminem
Co headliners:
- Editors (already announced)
- Franz Ferdinand
- Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
- Dizee Rascal (already announced)
- Motorhead
how does it sound?
Iron Maiden will perform in Budapest in July with Anthrax.
Venue: Budapest Park (part of Sziget Ltd.)
There was a tweet yesterday from Anthrax, but now it’s deleted.
So, it’s safe to say that we won’t see these two bands at Sziget.
Grape festival in Slovakia (around the corner from Budapest) on 9-10 August, has just announced The Drums, The Joy Formidable, Citizens! and The Big Pink.

Sigur Ros on Sziget….. I’d be so very, very happy if that would be true. These guys are brilliant!!!
