Here's a cool souvenir from this year's Sziget Festival. The Editors, playing their song "Bricks and mortar" at Sziget 2009. Even if winter's coming, remembering this great summer always feels good. Enjoy!
A very interesting account of this year's Sziget experience comes from Szigetnews reader pax. He managed to sum up 7 Sziget days in 200 seconds of images. Enjoy and check out his website, too. 7 days in 200 seconds from pax on Vimeo.
Organisers of this year's Sziget will provide a clinic specialising in respiratory problems on-site, as well as a round-the-clock pharmacy for those who might feel unwell during the week-long event, Hungarian Health Minister Tamas Szekely and head of the festival Karoly Gerendai told reporters on Monday, according to caboodle.hu. The clinic will have 60 beds and will help those with flu-like symptoms. Music fans with other medical issues will be treated at the first-aid points. It is important that possible A/H1N1 patients are isolated, the minister said. He added that 122 new flu cases had been registered in Hungary up to now. 400
We're all still waiting for the final line-up, but no news yet. The Rock Against Racism Day will provide an interesting act called "Love Music Hate Racism Allstars Special (UK)", which could promise some interesting musicians, as among the supporters of the Rock Against Racism concept are names like Anti-Flag, Babyshambles, Belle & Sebastian, Mylo, Shane McGowan, Lethal Bizzle, Doves, David Gray, Carl Barat, Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly, Damon Albarn, Tony Allen, Reverend & The Makers, Jerry Dammers and more. Who knows, maybe some of these artists will be present. (thanks to our buddy Mellowmaniac again).
Disco Ensemble, the Finnish punk sensation that will play Sziget Festival 2009's Main Stage on August 16, have just released a video for their song "Back on the MF Street", off the newly released EP of the same name. You can watch the video below. The band are in full form as they embarked on a huge summer tour, that will culminate with their performance at Sziget 2009.
Our friend Mellowmaniac has noticed that the Meduza Stage schedule has finally been posted on the official site, including Andrew Weatherall. What are you guys looking forward to at the Meduza Stage?
According to culture.hu, The Ting Tings are likely to come to the Sziget Festival to play a show that also includes some of their new material, from their new album, that they will start recording soon in Berlin. We have one or two new ideas but we have not started with the demos yet. Once again, it will be just the two of us in the studio and, for the time being, I have no idea what the new songs will sound like. Perhaps they will be a bit rougher but we are still thinking in terms of pop songs. We
First of all, you can download an official PDF of the full Sziget 2009 programmes here (or should we say the programmes so far). The source is the official French site. Second of all, Szigetnews friend Tijn has sent us quite some interesting news. Dutch site Rock Blog says that the Sziget 2009 Zero Day, the Rock Against Racism Day, will have some international acts, too, in addition to the local acts that will most certainly be present. More so, the official French Facebook site lists the question "Prognostics pour la tête d'affiche du Day Zero (11 août) ?", meaning "any
This year's Sziget Festival will, of course, have a Blues Stage, that will feature mostly Hungarian acts, but also Karen Carroll & The Mississippi Grave Diggers. You'll also get the chance to see a Zappa and a Doors tribute band, both Hungarian. The full schedule of the blues stage for this year's Sziget festival has been published here.(thanks, fromhungary)
Maybe they're not such a well-known name, but this girl band seems to have atitude. Founded by four girls sharing a passion for music, Swedish girl band Kackten E Sait are set, according to their MySpace, to "change the world". We don't know if they'll succeed, but they will play Sziget on August 13, according to that same MySpace page.
