Announcement: Kendrick Lamar, Mumford & Sons, Others @ Sziget 2018

Unlike in the previous years, when December saw the first announcement (or two) regarding the lineup of the event in the coming year, this year Sziget took its time. It has prepared to announce part of its lineup in December but delayed it at the time, citing its need for “a bit more time” to put together a relevant announcement for its fans. And the day has finally come: Sziget has announced the first artists, bands, and DJs to take its stages this August. Without further ado, here they are:

  • Above & Beyond
  • Alle Farben
  • Bastille
  • Blossoms
  • Cigarettes After Sex
  • Clean Bandit
  • Everything Everything
  • Fink
  • Gogol Bordello
  • Goo Goo Dolls
  • Jay Hardway
  • Joe Goddard live
  • Kaleo
  • Kendrick Lamar
  • Kygo
  • LA FEMME
  • Lemaitre
  • Lewis Capaldi
  • Liam Gallagher
  • Little Dragon
  • Lykke Li
  • Milky Chance
  • Mumford and Sons
  • Nothing But Thieves
  • Parov Stelar
  • Perturbator
  • Sam Feldt live
  • Seasick Steve
  • Shame
  • Slaves
  • The Him
  • The Kooks
  • Ummet Ozcan
  • WhoMadeWho
  • Wolf Alice
  • Zara Larsson

Those of you with one eye on the many other information sources online might have stumbled upon the leaked lists of artists coming to Sziget this year. Luckily for some, unfortunately for others, the list has proven to be right. Those of you who have been waiting for Sziget to book artists like Eminem or Arctic Monkeys are surely disappointed now.

The big one in the first announcement this year is, without a doubt, Kendrick Lamar. The artist has released his last album in April 2017, and it was received very well by critics and audiences alike. He also produced the curated soundtrack for the upcoming Marvel superhero flick “Black Panther”.

Kygo was the first house music producer to perform at an Olympics closing ceremony, in 2016. Since then, he released a new studio album called “Kids in Love”, received positively both by critics and fans. and reached #1 on the US Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart.

Mumford and Sons needs no introduction. The band has celebrated its tenth anniversary last year, and they seem to plan to celebrate it a bit late, with the release of a new album in 2018.

Liam Gallagher has released a solo album in October 2017, and it was very well received. “As You Were” debuted in the #1 spot on the UK’s Album Chart and became certified gold within a week after its release.

Bastille is also a big returner to Sziget Festival – and it also prepares a brand new album for 2018 release. The band has received a lot of publicity last year, releasing a cover of Green Day’s “Basket Case” for the Amazon series “The Tick” and a music video of “World Gone Mad” for Netflix’s big-budget fantasy movie “Bright”.

Sziget also announced that its early-bird ticket promotion will continue until January 31, when the price of the 7-Day Pass is hiked to EUR299 (and the rest of the prices also grow accordingly). And for those of you who can hardly wait, there are now less than 200 days left until Sziget 2018.

  1. it’s obviously better than the last year, but 80% of these are so medicore, overhyped crap that it hurts.

  2. Already got 12 acts i’d like to see. Very nice. I could obviously still find some reasons to complain, but I think they did better than i expected.

  3. We had to wait this long for these names…. Very disappointing…. KYGO HEADLINER? IS IT A JOKE? Kendrick and Mumford not my type but ok. Stil better than wiz kahlifa and alt J.

  4. And we can expect a shitty dj for one head slot more (end show) .
So only 3 headliners left. No Arctic monkey’s and no Eminem.

  5. Have to say, pretty uninspired by this announcement. Have decided not to go for the first time in 9 years. Not worth it now that Budapest has become more expensive. 🙁

  6. So, if we get AM next week, I don’t really care if the rest of the next announcement will be filled with DJs.

  7. I could see Kygo, Mumford and Sons and Kendrick Lamar headliners, I could consider viable Britney Spears, Arctic Monkeys and Gorillaz as other 3 headliners and last one is unknown even to best hypothesis.

  8. The announcement is pretty good, if you compare it to the last 2 years… However, we almost know that we’ll get at least 2 more DJs as headliners, so this means only 2 quality headline spots remain available, which 1 might a rock band (Arctic Monkeys hopefully) & 1 another pop headliner (a female act maybe? Florence + the Machine again would be cool, instead of Iggy Azalea / Nicki Minaj / insert any other crap female act here).

In the end, Arctic Monkeys, Kendrick, Mumford & Sons, Florence + the Machine, Kygo + 2 DJs wouldn’t look so bad as headliners.

  9. @SkaPanda: It’s impossible for them to be at Primavera, as they are strongly rumoured for Mad Cool & NOS Alive + they play Firefly festival in the US in June!

  10. I think the announcement is good and pretty solid. I’m happy with a lot of names. I’ve seen Mumfords twice and they are very very good live and I’m happy to see Kendrick in because he’s one of the big names I wouldn’t go to a solo concert but I’d like to see in a lineup of a festival I’ll be attending. There is also a lot of quality with Joe Goddard live above all, Perturbator, Wolf Alice, Everything Everything, Parov Stelar and some others. Then we have the tipical sziget names like Bastille, The Kooks, Gogol Bordello and Clean Bandit but it’s sziget so we have to expect names like these.

And can we meet to sing along Iris by Goo Goo Dolls all together?

  11. However, the rules for the 5-day pass remain the same… it’s available from Day 3 to Day 7.

  12. @Sziget ignore my comment, I read bad and misunderstood. I should stop walking watching my phone lol

  13. Obviously it’s better than last year … I do’ot like the first 3 headliners, but the rest is varied and of good level … is it so hard to call the Gorillaz who are in Austria the same week?

  14. Phisically speaking it would be piece of cake, but budget-wise speaking it may be not so easy, since I don’t think that is exactly a last-resort headliner: if they have them, they gonna release them with AM next week imho

  15. @FAB1 some bands may be an exclusive for a certain geographical area and Austria and Hungary may surely be considered in the same macro-area alongside Slovenia and north-east of Italy. It’s pretty common that the biggest headliner of Sziget don’t play Frequency and the biggest headliner of Frequency don’t play Sziget. It happened with Foo Fighters-Prince in 2011, The Cure-The Stone Roses in 2012, SOAD-Blur in 2013, Linkin Park-Kings Of Leon in 2015, Muse-Paul Kalkbrenner/Massive Attack/Damian Markey in 2016, and Mumford & Sons/Moderat- Pink/Kasabian last year. We should start considering that Gorillas may not come in the end.

  16. That would be a huge loss.

Anyway, I finally had time to listen to every announced name, and that’s good indeed.

Must see acts: Kendrick Lamar, Little Dragon, Perturbator
Surely will give more than a chance: Mumford and Sons, Gogol Bordello, Milky Chance, Nothing but Thieves, Slaves, Wolf Alice, Joe Goddard, Whomadewho, Above & Beyond.

    Im really happy!

  17. Gorillaz wont come as they had 1,5 shows in Budapest in 2017. Let it go, Hungary is a B market.

  18. any idea how to access the hungarian sziget website from germany? it is extremely annoying that it keeps redirecting to the german site and there is no way to switch

  19. I get redirected every time and there is no way to avoid it. Even ther facebook is redirecting me to the german one. So annoying I could kill them really

  20. Everything is good, Kendrick is a god , but wtf, who put milky chance in the main stage? They should play in the dark for cool atmosphere, idea of listening them in a hot sunny day at the main stage makes me sick. This amazing band should play at the a38, like it was in the past.

  21. If what Lykke Li posted on instagram is true and The War On Drugs are really coming, my sziget is done. I love them. I never though Sziget would book them and was hoping to see them at Primavera Sound. This means Sziget is really trying to add a lot of quality to the lineup. Thanks! <3

ps. now that there's the possibility to do these kind of bookings Kurt Vile would be more than appreciated 😀

  22. Is it true that they want to give us the next names next week???
    I can´t believe it….but???

I can´t do anything withe the headliners…but that is allways the same….but I like the smaller ones

  23. Yeah The War on Drugs would be my favorite band on the list 🙂 really hope it’s confirmed!
Flow is announcing on monday… maybe Sziget share a headliner with them and Primavera?

  24. Also don’t forget that Mad Cool if I do recall correctly should release one of its last bunch of names, and Werchter is quite behind in his scheduled releasing lately…

  25. https://britneyspears.com/events
Also, Britney Spears most likely ruled out as she has 5 dates during the Sziget week.

I’m pretty sad, that would have been a huge load of trash all in once, I mean, to say I went to a BS show it’s something I would be pride of

  26. Oh I see, they’re on the poster she posted. Weird. Wonder why they decided not to announce them last minute.

  27. I guess that The War on Drugs might have been part of the next announcement, which might arrive next week. 😀

  28. Flow, Oya (August), Open’er (July), Primavera (May/June) are all announcing on Monday. It’s getting more interesting! 🙂

  29. From Sziget’s Instagram: “Mumford & Sons comes with an exclusive show to #Sziget2018, with their only festival performance in Europe this summer! We’re so proud to have them on the Island Of Freedom on 11 August! ? “.

So they’re festival exclusives after 3 years of playing almost everywhere…

  30. I remember that in 2016 Muse played only 2 festivals in Europe… Glastonbury & Sziget, so it’s not the same thing + they’re way bigger than Mumford & Sons anyway.

I can’t complain about them being booked, though, I wanted them last year & 2 years ago as well, but I hope that this booking doesn’t mean that they are taking the place of way better bands which are around right now… Arctic Monkeys, for example.

  31. Honestly I dont think they will – and given that last year they would have been the biggest (or among the biggest) name on the bill make it really easy how unlucly was the last year.
Sure I think that Kendrick will be one of the 3 main names on the bill, tho

  32. Oops, it seems that Nothing But Thieves also did a Lykke Li today: https://twitter.com/NBThieves/status/955853359549906945. They announced the Benicassim line-up 2 days early!

The Killers, Liam Gallagher, Travis Scott, 2DCC, Bastille, The Vaccines, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Wolf Alice, Everything Everything, Tune-Yards & Shame are on the poster.

And a screenshot as well: http://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/efestivals/forums/monthly_2018_01/5A665ACC-F3A0-4A41-9B44-ADA8EF5D55FB.thumb.png.93f5f057e35f9f7ec1a9a8f99df9f512.png.

So, The Killers instead of AM next week?

  33. Oh, just saw that The Killers were already announced in December there, but the rest were not!

  34. @Yelo: Kendrick definitely deserves to be one of the first 3 names, but that exclusivity of Mumford makes me think they will also be there. However, on the announcement they’re after Kygo.

  35. Sziget Italia claimed that next announcement will make the situation “even more suggestive”
I’m dreaming big at this point

  36. @Sziget Muse played 15 European festivals in Summer 2016 including FIB, Lowlands and Paléo among the others.

  37. According to the new Sziget press release we can expect a headliner announcement on Monday.

  38. Well, it might be the same headliner as the other festivals will announce. I hope it’s AM.

  39. In a lot of comments to people on facebook Sziget Italia seems very confident about the next names being a success

  40. I was thinking over it with some friends.

Open’er, Primavera, Flow, Sziget and Oya are all announcing the same day. I’d wait after friday for the weekly announcement, but I’m positive that also Werchter will do an extra announcement on monday. To that I add Mad Cool, management of whom said (after the Jack White + undercards announcement) that next news would have been soon to be released.
So basically we have cream of the cream of the circuit month per month announcing the same day. All of them lack of at least one headliners.

Mad Cool and Werchter have AM as heavily rumored. In the disappointing of many of the goers also Primavera had some minor and unconfirmed leaks of AM touring. Open’er usually takes the biggest headliners in circulation each year; and Flow and Oya this year seem to be playing big with Kendrick Lamar and Arcade Fire.

Sziget feels positive about next release announcement, and if they do so is because the name they are about to announce is one of the most recurrent in wishlist.

At the same time Arctic Monkeys are about to release a world tour, and it has been teased on their twitter page from time to time.

To add more, I think Sziget has learnt from the sh*tstorm of last year after Pink announcing (while everybody was expecting Eminem) that is no good to disappoint goers.

    So.
    For.
    Christ.
    Sake.
    Let.
    This.
    Be.
    F-.
    Arctic.
    Monkeys.

  41. I just remember the leak about Eminem in December from a German or Austrian website… I hope he won’t be the announcement tomorrow. We already have Kendrick. Anyway, it’s a progress to hope that it will be AM and not Eminem…

  42. One more reason to be afraid of is that in the press release they wrote about a “star” & not about a band, which could mean that Monday’s announcement is about a person, which in that case could be Eminem.

  43. Somebody on the reading fest’s website says that their headliners are leaked, and are the following: Am, Paramore and Royal Blood, Kanye West

  44. So, if it’s Arctic Monkeys, for the first time in years (or maybe ever) everybody on this website will be happy. I hope it’s them even just to see some shared happiness in here.

  45. @Bender.

No, AM is an overrated band.
BUT, i’m very positive over the first announcement even though, non of the artists interest me. BUT for the most part they’re finally ACTUAL, which is good start in the right direction.

  46. I’m really curious about the new album of AM now! I think it’ll determine whether it’s a good booking or a great one!

Having them on the back of a new album with all the competition around is already something to be proud of.

That is IF it’s Arctic Monkeys announced on monday, which I’m confident about when we see all the hints. I also hope that they’ll announce The War on Drugs just to be sure that they’re there.

  47. Still a victory, fsfsfsfsfsf, still a victory.

Palinko, guess more than only one, since TWoD are leaked

  48. It is for sure Arctic Monkey on monday, Sziget is doing crazy promotion for this announcement, they’ve done bad comunication strategies in the past but they’ve never been so confident. Plus all the other hints.

Kendrick + AM + Mumford is a strong and relevant trio of headliners everywhere in the world; the rest of the pop/edm headliners will be ok, we already have some good subs like Liam + TWoD+Bastille but I think they’ll keep some good sub announcement for later on like Reading does; also undercard is shaping well so seems like we have nothing to complain about the poster this year

  49. There are like 6-7 festivals announcing the 29th and AM are the only soon to release a tour.

Also, TWoD according to the Lykke Li Bill are not provided to be subs

  50. not saying that AM are not likely, but this whole rumour is based on one US date… so it’s not more likely than any other band

  51. “AM are the only soon to release a tour.”
    this is just bold,

I know you would like them, but this is certainly not 100%.

  52. Not sure, no leaks about them, and I admit I’m growing a huge hype myself. But still, I can’t see other band and this coincidence is too big to be left untold.
I will call it certainty only when Werchter and Mad Cool will join the party

  53. If The War On Drugs leak is true I’d love to see them as an A38 headliner, so at 23:45.

Anyway an artist I’d really love to see at Sziget is James Blake. His European tour ends in March and only has one summer date announced at Governors Ball in NYC at the beginning of June. This may mean that his summer tour will touch North America in the first part of summer and then he may come back to Europe for august festivals. I’ve already seen him in Pukkelpop 2013, Primavera Sound 2015 and Sónar 2016 and everytime his show was close to perfection. At Primavera I think his concert was the best of the whole festival along with the one of Einsturzende Neubauten. But this last group will never ever come to Sziget :(((((

  54. A guy said on another forum that Mad Cool will also post a hint similar to the Open’er one on Sunday. They might announce new names on Monday as well. The most rumours about AM were at Mad Cool until now.

  55. Thank God we’re gonna miss 30STM. Their new single is even worse than the previous one

  56. I understood the clue… but Eminem isn’t bigger… Rather Elton John or Earth, Wind & Fire 😀 😀

  57. Yeah, I was thinking about Elton John’s retirement tour, too. Would be interesting, but I would be more excited about AM, to be honest.

  58. However, I don’t think it’s Elton John, as I think he’ll start his farewell tour in the US, as he already announced, but who knows…

  59. Soon @Szigetnews will confirm that it isn’t the real John Doe and we will come back to thinking about ‘our’ AM …

  60. It should be Eminem or Ed Sheeran.
Actually, I would take Ed Sheeran as a pop headliner. I don’t think we need more rap headliners after Kendrick.

  61. @Vlad: But Eminem’s latest album is more pop than rap… I really hope this is wasn’t the real John Doe.

  62. Obviously it wasn’t. The real one didn’t show up for more than a year. It’s a crappy troll

  63. Maybe it’s an emulator but he still is an inside source. Eminem was very requested last year and sure he’s always on top of the wishlists.

  64. Openair Frauenfeld (hip-hop festival which takes place at the beginning of July) will also announce names on Monday. Eminem?

  65. @Sziget Frauenfeld was supposed to announce today but it was postponed. I think it’s only coincidence and has nothing to do with Eminem…

  66. I really am hoping for Arctic Monkeys for the Thursday or Friday headline slot.. any way we can find out if that was the same John Doe?

  67. sure he is not John Doe. Him, the god of the leaks, say directly the names or the first letter of the names.

  68. Actually John Doe had a whole different modus operandi and he/she disappeared after the old Sziget ‘s lineup’s man under Gerendai management died in accident few years ago (unfortunately I can’t recall his name). Rumor has it the man himself was the leak and it was an inside joke of the fest in a similar way as Gabi of Primavera and someone in a festival for Mad Cool is helping out aficionados to get first hand information on the lineup before the actual releasing.
    So, no, 99% that’s a faker.

Does this confirm anyhow our idea about AM? No

  69. I swear that was on the tip of my tongue but I just couldn’t find a way to find that name! Thank you!

  70. Bastille and Mumford and Sons 11 August. This day is gonna be a strong day for Sziget!

    Kaleo 12 Aug

  71. @yelo: when you can’t remember his name just go and check the complete name of Sziget’s Main stage 🙂

  72. Belive me I google’d keywords for dead – lineup man – sziget main stage name 2016 and s*it like this and nothing came up…
Dan Panaitescu, hardly will forget again ahahah

  73. A guy on efests: “Spoke to my Arctic Monkeys related friend again Apparently they’re announcing Glasgow, Barca, “somewhere in Poland” and Porto Monday. Maybe one more. Doesn’t sound like Mad Cool is happening”

    “maybe one more” = Sziget?

  74. Actually the only 2 festivals that clearly communicated that will announce headliners are Open’er and Sziget. “Somewhere in Poland” should be Open’er, meanwhile “maybe one more” should be Sziget.

The other festivals posted that will announce new names, so I think that some of those won’t announce AM.

  75. According to Arctic Monkeys US (reliable fan site who has some inside news from the band). AM won’t play in South America this year, Firefly won’t be their first show and they won’t play at Outside Lands (that US festival that takes place in August).

I think they might play some shows in Europe in spring, they could play Primavera Festival too, then they’ll play in the US and come back to Europe for July / August. Let’s see.

  76. Checking efestivals, it seems to be that arctic monkeys are rumoured for mad cool, primavera, and benicassim. They will play max one of these I think. But sziget seems likely now, fingers crossed!!

  77. OMG if that Primavera Sound lineup turns out to be the real one I’m the happiest man on planet earth! PERFECT LINEUP.

  78. That’s not a confirmation, that’s just a mention because in another post they wanted to see which festivals will do announcements tomorrow.

  79. Oops, didn’t see that. He has inside news indeed. IT’S HAPPENING.

Can’t wait for the official confirmation.

  80. @Sziget: well, Mad Cool has done a masterpiece this year, this Primavera’s lineup seem to be one of the most solid in the recent years and Werchter is (as usual) slaying it. To those I’d add Dour, Sonar and NOS Alive that are nailing it.
Sziget is up there, surely with only 4 heads out it is already better than every Sziget since 2014 most likely

  81. 30stm arena huge name for a festival like strand. Well, good for us that they are gonna play there.

  82. Arctic Monkeys>>>>>>>>>>any stupid DJ “end show” (also why can’t be a normal band playing a show, can’t be an “end” show)

still don’t care for them though…

  83. So Kygo may be the only edm dj headlining Sziget this year. Fingers crossed! This edition is becoming every day more interesting! <3

  84. Dont
    Feed
    The
    Troll

MASTERPIECE ANNOUNCEMENT, too bad for the leak, tho

Now bring 3 more decent-to-good headliners and make this a great edition (yeah Gorillaz, I mean them, so Gorillaz, yeah)

  85. sooo… for stating that it’s way better booking than a DJ, although I don’t think they are nowhere near a masterpiece in my book so therefore I don’t care about them…. So I guess I’m troll then

  86. For Sziget, an exceptional booking.

For me, I am gutted. I so wanted to see them, but of the four headliner days available, I could have seen them on 9/10/12, just not the final day! I really wasn’t expecting them to be the end show, gutted!
