Location View Sziget Festival Location in a larger map The location of Sziget Festival in Budapest is as every year the Hájogyári Sziget which means shipyard in Hungarian but it is also called Óbuda island. The island is the biggest island of Budapest with more than 100 hectare, a length of 2.75km and a maximum width of 500m. Hájogyári Sziget is partly used for industrial purposes such as several office buildings for small to medium sized companies and location of popular clubs in Budapest such as the Studio or Dokk Beach. But mainly the island is a large recreation area, the green lung of Budapest, with horse riding activities, several playgrounds and seasonal Budapest festivals such as the “Childrens Island” and of course the Sziget Festival. During Sziget Festival the entire island transforms into a large camping and music stage area where you can’t escape the music and visitors of the Sziget Festival. This is the time when other businesses, except the clubs, stand still. How to reach Hájogyári Sziget? The easiest way is to take the suburban train HÉV to the direction of Szentendre and get off at the station Filatorigát which is the 5th station after the starting point at Battyányi Square. There are also busses going into this direction and of course by car you can reach it if you leave Budapest on the Northern part on Buda side.
