The BRIT Awards, sometimes called the Brits, is perhaps the most important event for the UK's music industry. The awards, given out by the British Phonographic Industry association (the BPI), have been recurring annually since 1982. The awards ceremony is transmitted live by the local TV channel ITV (the BBC's main competitor) and held in The O2 in London (since 2011). Robbie Williams is the British artist with the most BRITs under his belt: he won five of them as part of "Take That", and further 13 as a solo artist, followed by Adele and Coldplay with 9 awards each, "Take That" and Annie Lennox
