Big loss for Pendulum and the metalcore bands… I think this will be like an excuse for Sziget for not to book any band of that kind this year…
not that I like anything besides shikari, but this is how you book properly a festival. Volt>>>>>>>>>>>>>sziget
Yelo, don’t you think that it’s ridiculous that even Volt has better (maybe that’s not the correct word, so lets say bigger) headliners than sziget?
I think the sziget lineup is much better and balanced so far compared to volt. Bring on some cool names next week. I think sziget needs some classic 90s bands, prodigy, placebo, pixies, suede, Marilyn Manson, etc, something people can sing along to.
The festivals sometimes share acts eg. DVBSS last year, surely Pendulum have to be at sziget not volt! If not an absolute disastrous decision by the bookers! I understand Linkin Park as they not around in august but Pendulum c’mon man! Give the people what they want
Well I start to think they are exploring Volt more than sziget since they kind of reached the full potential of Sziget. With a big line up for Volt, they are able to make that a bigger festival now and increase the total revenue of all the festivals, bigger profit. I hope i am wrong but for now it looks like they have put more efford in the other line up… of course ellie goulding was pure shit. But Martin Garrix Imagine Dragons and Linkin Park are very good headliners. With Pendulum, knife party, and Hernan cattaneo they have a good undercard as well.. I hope they have something good for Sziget coming up soon. I guess 1 real headliner wont be enough…
Frank Ocean (+Chance the Rapper) will play in the scandinavian festivals in august. Not for me but could be good for some people 🙂
@BDPST: is just silly to compare them and to think that you can already judge Sziget’s lineup. Volt lineup is almost done, all the biggest acts have been announced. Sziget really just started. We all know sziget used to start announcing in february but in the last few years (to keep the interest up) they gave us some names in december/january
Miguel, compare the Sziget and Volt headliners. Which sounds better? Linkin Park-Imagine Dragons-Ellie Goulding or 2 crap djs+kasabian? (I know both suck, but I think Volt sucks less)
We still have 4 headliners than can all be bigger (at least, better like The XX/ National) than the ones we already have. The undercard is uncomparable. + smaller stages at sziget
It’s ridiculous how every year a lot of you people come here just to complain. It’s clear that Sziget is not anymore the festival that was till 2011. And you know what? It will never be that festival again! Deal with it and chose another festival. You like Volt’s lineup? Then go to Volt! It’s ridiculously cheap and the lineup for you is even better. What the hell are you waiting for?
Bender, calm down. By your logic, you should never get mad if something changes for the worse? That doesn’t sound really great
@Patrick of course you can but after YEARS repeating the same f’n thing in every f’n post it’s enough.
@Patrick it’s like me going every day to McDonald’s and complaining every day because I can’t find anything vegan to eat.
@Bender, your metaphor would be right if there was a time when McDonald’s used to be vegan, and you loved their vegan stuff but they are not vegan anymore and you miss it. I don’t really get whats wrong with complaining (btw you must be mistaking me with someone, I have not been complaining here for years), I even think that debates are okay, as long as there is no name-calling and it’s calm
@Patrick Sziget direction started to change in 2012 and changed completely in 2013 with the first End Show ever. Now we’re in 2017. It’s not something new. it’s years Sziget is like that. Years. You can’t be surprised if Major Lazer or DV&LM headline. You bought your early bird tickets and are disappointed? Well it was obvious that names would have been like those. Look at past lineups: in 2016 Rihanna, David Guetta and Hardwell were headliners, in 2015 Major Lazer, Avicii, Ellie Goulding and Martin Garrix, 2014 Calvin Harris, Skrillex, Maclemore & Ryan Lewis and deadmau5 headlining, This kind of names are chosen every year and will be chosen for a lot of years to come. Deal with it. That’s why I really can’t understand why people still thinking Sziget would be something different that what it was in the last 5 years.
@Bender, you really need to relax. This will be my seventh edition, not planning on selling the ticket. I’m just sayin that the line-up is not really what you would consider great, regarding the fact that every festival in August has usually better names than sziget. I’m okay if they go to a pop direction, but in that case they should do it right (btw can you tell my why everyone here hates Lana Del Rey), and I don’t think they do. And also I think that the few remaining rock headliners shouldn’t be Placebo & co. Also kasabian being headliner is questionable (They are not very popular here, and I guess that’s the situation everywhere except England.
Still not a reason to react this agressive. For some people it is a dissapointment, like some people like the xx, i think they are not that good. I’m happy for those who like the line up so far and see the bands they want to see. I really am. In my opinion everyone on this forum as a right of speach. Just because people think different from your oppinion, doesnt mean they have no right to complain. And yes Bender, this will be the last year sziget for me. After this year you can live further without me on this forum. Till than, i will share my opinion, good and bad. As i expect others to do. I will give info about stuff i know about other festivals, so we can check what names would be available. i already have the tickets, so i will go.
@Patrick it’s not true Kasabian are questionable headliners everywhere except England. In Italy for example they are huge, and Italians are one of the biggest community of strangers at Sziget (as well as english people). Anyway they also headline FIB in Spain and InMusic in Croatia. For now there are no other festivals where they are announced but there will surely be one and they’ll headline more. They also have a new album to come. And it’s not written anywhere that they won’t co-headline with an electro act like they did in 2015 with Avicii and in 2011 with The Chemical Brothers.
@BDPST: Sorry for the wait, I had an hard San Valentine’s watching all Stains;Gate and eating TexMex way too much lol I dont understand all this things about Volt > Sziget. If Sziget had that lineup for the major names I would be disappointed more than I can be right now. Sziget CANT have LP, they ARENT touring in august, put that in your mind. And even if Sziget was in June-July, LP would be a disappointing pick to me, when there are around people like SOAD, Radiohead, Arcade Fire and Foo Fighters. LP dont release anything good from decades, and that’s the same thing you said for Muse and KoL when they got announced. So, no, in Sziget view, LP wouldn’t be a good main headliner, for Volt is majestic, okay? okay. Who are the others? Let’s see… MARTIN GARRIX AND ELLIE GOULDING, littlerally the trash party’s headliners of 2015’s edition, what a deal. Imagine Dragons, which we should be grate to Sziget to have called them in 2014 and put them in the place they always deserved to be: 17.15 spot (with their first album, the second is really really a poor thing). Pendulum Live, okay, great name, but be serious, headliner? Sziget? You Jelly? Probably 17.15 or 19.00 spot. The other names are only undercards that already have been to Sziget and which you people have complained about already, ‘cept for Of Mice and Men, The Cult and Kalkebrenner, which are the only names that matters, along with Pendulum, IMHO. Ah, and take in consideration that Volt has announced a large part of its lineup, since they usually fill the festival with (kinda good) hungarian’s names. So what? It’s worth the prices, of course, but we are far from seeing a competition among the festivals. Also, I understand Bender’s rage (and Im sure rage is a big word, since it’s out of his style), some behaviours are really a downer
I don’t think my behaver was that bad either. But if he thought it was personal towards him I would like to appologise and be friendly towards eachother again. Ironicly: Good names would help the atmosphere in this forum too..
@Yelo thanks Guys I’m following this forum since 2009, the year of my first Sziget. It was a good place to be and complaints were never annoying like they are now. I mean, under every post there are always the same people complaining about the same things. Some of them are complaining from years but still go to Sziget every year. That’s what I find really annoying. I mean, we all know Sziget has chosen a “new” (basically it’s not even new anymore) music direction. We also all know that we’re still in February and maybe 10% of the lineup of the bigger stages is out. Can we all try to stay a bit more positive? That’s it. Wait for the whole lineup and then go or sell your ticket. That’s what happens usually with music festivals: people look at the lineup and if they don’t like it they don’t go. Why can’t this happen also with Sziget? Peace 🙂
I don’t know how you guys managed not to get used to complaining while spending so much time all these years here, complaining is a national tradition in Hungary
@Patrick Bateman I’m happy you asked me, it’s a very easy question. I like both Linkin Park and Kasabian, I have a lot of their songs in my everyday playlist, but I really have to say that Linkin Park are not more relevant (since 2010 maybe). Kasabian still are. I’ve seen Linkin Park live and I thought “ok they’re good, but today they’re just a very good band for grown up teenagers”. Then I’ve seen Kasabian live and that was on another level,. And after that another 4 times and they were even better, so for me Kasabian >>> LP Ellie goulding and Imagine Dragons are just nonsense acts, headliners only because of radio plays or YouTube views, so I’m not interested in them, like I’m not really interested in Major Lazer and DV&LM. But I consider Major Lazer show less boring than Goulding or Dragons. Can’t see this big difference in the headliners tbh. Pendulum live, big loss it’s true, but I have Interpol, Flume, TDCC, Demarco, and other acts I like the same way. And I think Sziget undercard will be bigger then Volt’s.
One thing has to be said, tho: Imagine Dragons may be radio friendly as much as you want and their second album is kinda boring and underwhelming, but live are amazing. Their gig in 2014 is in my top 10 shows ever seen. This being said, no, they ain’t headliner, wouldnt even deserve the subheadliner spot, honestly (like Bastille the latest year didnt deserved the sub-headliner spot as well)
